Marine Pollution
Think Blue and Go Green.

What is it?

Oceans are becoming uninhabitable for marine life and the global food chain is being contaminated due to massive amounts of waste products entering the oceans on a daily basis. These waste products largely comprise of oil spills, chemical and sewage overflow, and plastics.

Effects on Marine Wildlife

Plastic debris tends to get attached to marine animals’ food sources and gets consumed by these creatures. When ingested, plastic waste can potentially lead to irritation in the animal’s digestive system. Human consumption of such fish can result in health problems which may prove to be fatal in some cases.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Plastic waste does not completely decompose in oceans. Through photodegradation, the plastic waste is only broken down into smaller and smaller pieces. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch, located in northern Pacific Ocean, is comprised of this type of micro-grabage. This patch of garbage is twice the size of Texas and is growing exponentially.
